If you were going to write a book, what would you write about?
I'd write a story about a Cajun boy named Gris-Gris that plays a guitar.
What was your first concert?
I went to my first concert with my mother! She was a huge fan of Waylon Jennings. When I was about 10 or 11 he played at the Civic Center in Monroe, LA and my mother took me with her to see the concert.
What were the biggest and smallest places you’ve lived in?
Submitted by Jack Yan.In terms of town/cities, I've lived at both ends of the spectrum:
Smallest - Mer Rouge, Louisiana (population ~ 720)
Largest - Bangkok, Thailand (population ~ 8.2 million)
Daylight Savings Time started at 2:00 a.m. today. What's your favorite thing about having more light later in the day?
Thailand doesn't have daylight saving time, but my favorite thing is about it is that it is now exactly 12 hrs difference from the time here to US Central Time. That makes it extremely easy to know what time it is back home.
What's your favorite TV commercial?
Submitted by MexicanRobot. There are a lot of funny Thai commercials. Here are two that I could find on youtube. They always crack me up.
Clothing, dinners, make-up, or gadgets... We all have things we like to splurge on. What do you think you buy too much of?
Without a doubt, it's music. I buy more than I can really appreciate in the time I have to listen to it. I have an Emusic subscription until March, but after that, I think I'll try a "music buying hiatus" and spend some time enjoying the songs that I already have.
What are your favorite Thanksgiving traditions? Anything you're not so fond of?
Thanksgiving was the holiday that my father's side of the family gathered together at our house. My dad was the youngest of eight children, so with all my aunts, uncles and cousins it could be a very large group. Our house was next to large pecan orchard. After a huge lunch, we used to go out and pick up pecans. When we finished with the pecans, my Aunt Ruth would take charge of making eggnog. That eggnog wasn't like the kind bought in the stores. It was very "fluffy" (from the whipped eggwhites) and she added a liberal amount of bourbon. We would sprinkle nutmeg on top.
I found a couple of photos of the pecan orchard, but not of us picking up pecans.
While walking in a winter wonderland can be fun in theory, it makes shopping a big of a drag. Do you plan on doing your holiday shopping online or in-stores this season? Why?
Sponsored by Best Buy.
One of the many things living in Thailand has changed about me is that I don't buy Christmas presents. I don't think I've bought a Christmas present in the last 10 or 11 years. They have "Christmas" in Bangkok in a retail sense, but I still get up and go to work on Christmas morning. I'll stop and buy pastries for the staff, but that's it.
How do you feel about the results of the election?
Happy, relieved, excited! It's so interesting to see everyone's reaction. Last evening one of our Thai clients congratulated me! She was so happy and telling me that I had to listen to Obama's speech as soon as I could. A Singaporean friend (that lives in England) called to let me know how great it was that Obama won the election. He told me that his landlord cried (in a good way) when she heard the news. This is the fourth US Presidential election that I've been through in Thailand and nothing comes close the the reaction that Obama is getting. People here are really expecting great things.
The upcoming movie"Twlight" is said to have an awesome soundtrack. What movie do you think has the best soundtrack?
Out of the many thousands of movie soundtracks, I own about 30. That's not very many to make a comparison. However, this is the one that I think is best:
The movie didn't do that much for me, but I still like listening to the soundtrack 17 years later.
