My last post was about my house flooding. Things have dried out and only a few shoes were casualties. The rain is still falling, but the house hasn't flooded again. The front yard has been turned into a swamp a couple of times, though.
Sometime late in August eMusic gave a 50 free song "loyalty bonus" to the people who stuck with them through their price restructuring. My monthly subscription refreshed shortly after that, so I had decide which 100 songs I wanted to download (Oh, how to choose? How to choose?). I ended up with quite a bit of garage rock inspired by Homebody's post of Have Love Will Travel. I also downloaded the new Brendan Benson album My Old Familiar Friend.
I normally download complete albums, but there's always one or two credits left over. Those stragglers can be the hardest to decide how to use and many times I just make some wild choice based cover art or song title. That was the case with Blueboy's Jennifer Yeah!. This brings my Jenny/Jennifer song total to 9 songs.
I'm finally on the last leg of my library listening project. Only the ABC artists to listen to and then I can get back to listening to whatever songs I want. Thank goodness! In an effort not to go back to letters that I've already listened to, I only downloaded B and C artists from eMusic this month.
My eMusic subscription renewed and I used up the downloads quite quickly this month. The subscription ends in March and I intended to not renew. As the time draws near, I've started having second thoughts about that. Maybe I will renew with less monthly downloads.
Well, all the rumors and paranoia on Thursday turned out to be nothing...and still nothing is happening. I can't figure it out. The weekend turned out very nice - around here, at least. I decided to get a haircut on Saturday. Since Thailand is supposedly on the verge of economic collapse and/or civil insurgency, I thought I'd might as well look nice for it. The stylist asked me if I was going home for Christmas. It's not likely unless someone can get the airports open.
I have a difficult time understanding the music industry. I like listening to music. I want to legally buy music and have money go to the artists. Why does that have to be difficult? Why does it depend on where I live?
Spooncat! - A band I heard on DJ's muxtape (Thanks!).
No Kids - I think I first heard them on KEXP or Pitchfork (not sure).
Sing-Sing - They had a free song on http://music.download.com/ that I liked.
Cat Empire - This band was a last.fm recommendation.
Stars - I had a couple of free mp3s from their latest album, so I thought I'd check out their older stuff.
Vampire Weekend - got the A-Punk mp3 from KEXP (and liked it), so I downloaded the album when it finally got to eMusic.
A lot of my downloads were based on free mp3s, so that marketing ploy must be working (at least in my case).
y downloads were based on free mp3s, so I guess that's working as a marketing pl
Buying good music in Bangkok is practically impossible. The ability to buy music online has been one of the greatest things! Of course, I could download it illegally, but then I feel guilty listening to it...it's weird. Anyway, I subscribed to eMusic in December 2007 and with a inadvertent click of a button ended up with a "Premium Account". Really, way more music than I need each month, but I'll keep it for the year. Usually my monthly downloads end up in my Last.fm top artists, at least for a week. These are the downloads for June '08...
